WATERSCAPE FAQs

Q. What style of water feature should I get?
    A. That’s up to you and what you want to use it for. Do you want to propagate and display aquatic plants? Or do you want a few fish? A formal fountain for your circular drive or a natural pond for your grandchildren’s next visit? Water gardens, ponds, fountains, streams or waterfalls; talk to a specialized designer at Autumn Mist Aquatics and we can show you the infinite styles available and customize that to your personal needs and lifestyle for a perfect match.

Q. Is it expensive to have a water feature professionally installed?
    A. Not necessarily. As in anything else, you get what you pay for. If you desire a high-quality, custom designed system with state of the art equipment, installed with the best materials available on the market today, you must be willing to pay a qualified professional for that service. Remember though, the most expensive is not always the best.

Q. Will my water feature look natural?
A.The appearance of your water feature will depend greatly upon the skill level of your installation contractor. Autumn Mist Aquatics; one of the few Certified Water Feature Designers in the country; specializes in totally natural looking water features and our reputation depends on being able to deliver the appearance our clients desire. Our innovative designs have earned more than three hundred local, regional and national awards and recognitions, including some of the most natural waterfalls and streams.

Q. How much time will I have to spend maintaining my water feature?
    A. The length of time and the frequency in which you spend cleaning and maintaining your water feature will depend a great deal on you and the financial limits you allow for your project. If you want low maintenance, tell your contractor that you do not want to become a slave to your system and then be prepared to spend a little extra for the proper equipment and components to insure that your water feature has a low maintenance system. One of the most maintenance free systems available today are the increasingly popular disappearing water features.

Q. What is a good size for my water feature?
    A. The size of your water feature is largely a personal preference and based on the area or amount of space you have available and the financial limits you set for the project. It will also depend on your use for the water feature. Will it be a water garden? Or will you want to add fish? Is it a Koi breeding pond or a formal fountain? A qualified professional can help to determine what size will fit your needs, lifestyle and budget, but remember, the number one answer customers give if asked what they would change about their water feature is ‘size’, they all wish it were larger. When first planned, a water feature appears large enough and then you add a few fish and plants and the next thing you know, it’s full and you will want more room to grow.

Q. How deep should my water feature be?
    A. The depth will correspond with overall size and function or use of your water feature. If you intend on displaying aquatic plants, a shallower pool will suffice. If you would like to introduce fish into your pond, you will need a much deeper water feature. Local building codes will play a part in determining how deep an open body of water can be without being fenced in. A design professional from Autumn Mist Aquatics can help in calculating the depth appropriate for your waterscape.

Q. What about mosquito’s, algae and other pests?
    A. The water feature industry is growing so rapidly right now because of unparalleled popularity. Water features are the number one item a home owner would like to add to their property. Because of this, companies are producing wonderful new components and equipment for your ornamental pond. One of the greatest advances is the use of ultraviolet sterilization units in ornamental water features. These units can completely eliminate parasites, bacteria, mosquito larvae and green water algae in your pond leaving you with clean, clear, pristine water.

Q. How long will it take to have my water feature installed?
    A. The length of time needed to have a water feature professionally installed will vary greatly from one project to the next. Size, location, working conditions and weather can all play a part in the completion rate of your waterscape. Normally there are no major delays in the construction or installation process. The project manager will, however, keep you completely informed on the progress of your project with daily feedback if you would like.

    A. You should always schedule your project as early as possible. Job slots fill up quickly, especially with the reputation Autumn Mist Aquatics has built over the years.
