DESIGNER SHOWCASE - WORLD'S LARGEST DISAPPEARING WATERFALL by Rick Bartel WATER GARDEN NEWS, Magazine 2007 Recently Autumn Mist Aquatics was asked if they could significantly and substantially alter the visual appearance of an existing church property that had been the home for one local denomination for more than thirty years. The "old church" had just recently completed construction on a new facility and in moving, sold the property to a congregation that wanted the entire area to know that something NEW had transpired here. This created an interesting challenge as the area was so very flat and void of any imaginable contouring, plus the church was particularly concerned with liability issues. With the recent popularity of disappearing water features, a plan began to formulate. This feature would need to be significant. It would have to be extremely visible so as not to cause undue disruptions in the area traffic flows and it would have to have power and majestic qualities to be worthy of this location. Now, rising from the crest of a subtle rolling hilltop is a magnificent creation of truly Biblical proportions. Born is the world's largest disappearing waterfall…; a 120 foot long structure that encompasses an area of 7200 square feet and weighing in at more than 529 tons. This monolithic structure defies being ignored as 82,000 gallons of water circulate each hour over a 32 foot wide multi-leveled, split-tiered complex cascade waterfall. Designer/Installer: Autumn Mist Aquatics Contact Information: www.AutumnMistAquatics.com, P.O. Box #9508, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37412, 423-838-7663. Location: Chattanooga, Tennessee. Construction: The reservoir for this system measures forty feet wide and thirty feet from front to back, tapering down to an overall depth of four feet where five Savio Pond Free Waterfall Wells and Savio Pond Free Extensions contain the 16,500 gallon per hour powerhouses that move the nearly 8,000 gallon capacity through six inch pipes that feed a thirty-five foot long ten inch baffle. A Savio Electronic Solenoid Water Level Sensor ensures a completely automated maintenance free system. This project was constructed entirely using the RISE Method of rock and boulder placement techniques developed by Autumn Mist Aquatics and taught exclusively through the Savio Water Feature Institute Seminars. A pleasing combination of proportionally balanced elements coupled with quality components and unparalleled attention to details through higher standards of uncompromising, dedicated craftsmanship will always result in award winning designs. |
