Autumn Mist Aquatics is certified, skillfully trained and experienced in all areas and aspects of waterscape design and installation techniques. Though each project is personally customized to fit your specific
needs and lifestyle, the following will give you a place to start in determining what you desire and require in your water feature. Where will your imagination take you?
WATER GARDENS : These are generally shallow pools, twenty inches or less in depth and used primarily for growing and displaying a variety of aquatic plants available on the market today. Because aquatic plants are
depth sensitive, a well designed water garden should contain several levels or "plant shelves" to accommodate the infinite variety of aquatic plant types you may wish to display.
PONDS : A pond is usually larger than a water garden, though most noticeably it is deeper. Generally a pond is twenty to forty-eight inches in depth and designed to accommodate both aquatic plants and fish. This dual
purpose makes ponds very popular and requires a more efficient filtration system to handle the increase in biological waste caused by the introduction of fish and other aquatic ecosystem life forms.
KOI PONDS : These are designed specifically for housing, breeding and displaying both domestic and imported varieties of Koi. Usually designed with depths of forty-eight inches or more and reaching as much as seven
or eight feet in depth, Koi ponds have very elaborate, sophisticated and sometimes complex, automated filtration systems used to keep the water quality at consistent levels for optimum Koi health.
FOUNTAINS : Although they can take any shape; neat, clean, smooth lines usually describe an architecturally structured fountain. Designed in a square, circle or other more complex geometric shape; a fountain can be
constructed with many different materials from natural or cut stone, marble and granite to textured concrete or stainless steel and other metals. A wide selection of fountain heads gives you infinite possibilities.
STREAMS : These are rapidly becoming one of the most sought after elements in today's water features. Generally designed and installed to contain horizontally moving water, streams are usually less than thirty
degree angles in drops of various elevations as they pass through intermittent pools and shallow areas. Mild to wild, this element can range from a small babbling brook, a creek or a raging white water mountain
stream.
WATERFALLS : This is overall the most popular element. From simple, sheer drops and smooth curtain falls; to multi-leveled, split-tiered and complex cascades; everyone loves a waterfall. These are utilized for
containing vertically moving water with angles of drop greater than thirty degrees and can range from the lightly intermittent drips and drops of a "weeping wall" to the gossamer veil of a multi-faceted
cascade.
BOG GARDENS : These water features cover an area found between dry land and open water and are no more than contained mud holes. These mud holes; however; can be one of the most fascinating focal points in your
landscape. Bog gardens can stand alone as a water feature or be used as an element in a much larger project. There is a wide variety of unique plants available for use in a bog garden application.
DISAPPEARING WATER FEATURES: This water feature has literally taken this industry by storm in recent years. It can be a variety of limitless design possibilities in its initial form such as a waterfall, stream or
fountain and then just simply "disappears" into a hidden underground reservoir or vault. The most unique aspects of this feature is that it can be any size or shape and is as maintenance free as a water
feature can be.
WALL FOUNTAINS and WATER WALLS: This particular type of feature can be found both inside or out and generally consists of a point of origin located on a wall; such as a lion's head, a sheet of mirrored glass or
a slab of granite; that in turn directs or guides water into a basin either sitting directly on the floor or suspended slightly above it. Designs can range from old world antique, naturalistic, conservative or
modern.
COMMERCIAL WATERSCAPES : These features are specifically designed and installed with regards to the extremes of high traffic areas such as zoos, botanical gardens, hotel lobbies, malls or commercial complexes and
can be either interior or exterior projects. Usually a commercial project requires an elevated level of pumping and filtration systems to withstand increased human contact.
